Migraine

Do you suffer from migraines? Do you wake up in the morning with a sore jaw? Does your neck hurt from bending over a computer? If you answered yes to any of these questions, consider having Dr. Ludwig do a myofascial pain assessment. You can schedule it the same day as your preventive care appointment or as a separate appointment.

Last month we talked about how Botox is part of a complete smile makeover. It is used to relax facial muscles and decrease wrinkles. This same type of muscle relaxation that is achieved with Botox, is used to relax the temporalis muscle and decrease migraines. In fact, this solution to migraines was found inadvertently when women received Botox for cosmetic procedures. Now, Dr. Ludwig can target this muscle specifically to decrease or relieve migraine pain.

Muscle relaxation achieved with Botox can be used to decrease clenching your teeth. You often clench them while you are sleeping. This is why you wake up with a sore jaw. Dr. Ludwig or your hygienist may have recommended a bite splint. Bite splints help your masseter muscle relax. (See bite splints page) Botox helps these muscles relax even more.

Some of you have really strong masseter muscles. So strong, in fact, that you put holes in your bite splint. This makes you an excellent candidate for a myofascial pain assessment of your masseter muscles.

And finally, as the number of people working on computers increases, so does neck pain. Not all neck pain is helped with Botox, but Dr. Ludwig can determine if you are a candidate.

Call the office at 453-3111 to schedule your free myofascial pain assessment if you decide to get the treatment.

At this appointment, Dr. Ludwig will apply finger pressure to the muscles of your head and neck looking for trigger points. These will be marked, and he will discuss his findings with you, as well as his recommendations for treatment. There is no cost for the assessment. The treatment cost will depend on the number of Botox units you need. This appointment takes 45 minutes. You can receive the Botox injections at the assessment appointment or schedule a separate appointment. Payment is expected at the time of service.

Life-Centered Dentistry does not take medical insurance. However, our team will complete the necessary medical forms for you to submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement for myofascial pain treatment.

We look forward to helping you wake up more refreshed and pain-free.
