Dr. Zachariah Smith

Meet Dr. Zachariah Smith. Dr. Smith earned his Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry at the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry.  He grew up in Traverse City and joined the Navy after high school to become a Corpsman. During his ten-year Naval career, split between Active Duty and Reserves, some of his more interesting stations were Camp Pendleton, Norfolk, Okinawa, and Bahrain. Then, using the Post 9/11 GI Bill, he attended college at Northwestern Michigan College and Grand Valley State University to earn a bachelor’s in biomedical sciences with a minor in chemistry.

You may have met Dr. Smith last June when he did his internship at Life-Centered Dentistry. We look forward to having you meet his family. His wife, Dr. Lauren Smith, is a nurse practitioner. She received her BSN (Bachelors of Science in Nursing) from Hope College and a Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) from Grand Valley. She is an Adult-Older Adult Nurse Practitioner. Dr. Smith and dentistry

“What I love most about dentistry is the opportunity to heal and care for patients in a truly unique way. Dental health plays a major role in overall health and well-being. From a young age, I was curious and loved building—playing with Legos, solving puzzles, and creating gourmet recipes. These interests prepared me for a career in dentistry; in which I get to combine my creativity, attention to detail, and years of experience in medicine.”

The University of Kentucky is one of a few US dental schools training in digital dentistry, including intra-oral scanning, digital crowns, bridges, and CAD/CAM implant planning, restorations and dentures. The curriculum also focused heavily on evidence-based and conservative dentistry.

Hobbies

Along with his family, Dr. Smith enjoys hiking, biking, all the water Michigan has to offer, and reading in the hammock. They even love the cold and enjoy winter sports. Around town, you might catch Dr. Smith and his family at one of their favorite local restaurants, Frederik Meijer Gardens, or biking the White Pine Trail.
